CHOOSING FOR YOUR TEAM

Long-sleeve thermal base layer: buying guidance

A thermal base top should be considered with the whole layering arrangement. Tell us about the workplace temperature, activity level and what will be worn over it. Discuss preferred fit and skin feel, and confirm the exact composition and care instructions. The word thermal is not a statement of a particular protective rating.

Part of a layering arrangement

Describe the working temperature, activity and duration in the environment. Compare the final composition, fabric feel and care instructions alongside the outer layers. A thermal style description does not establish a particular certified cold-protection rating.

Sizes, fit and quantities

Record the preferred fit and sizes using the selected manufacturer’s measurements. Consider the clothing worn over the base layer and the movement needed in the role. Give separate breakdowns for tops and bottoms if both are required.

Branding and artwork

Explain whether the layer is intended to be visible and whether any marking is actually needed. Branding may be unnecessary beneath the main uniform. If requested, its suitability needs checking against the final fabric and garment construction.
